Restarting Progress (once again...)
Seven Isles is back!
This time under a new coat of paint, I have decided to bring Seven Isles back from the dead once again, to reduce the chance of burn out I am limiting myself to a maximum of 3 hours of work per session with at least an hour between sessions and due to work can only work on the game during the weekends or evenings, meaning I can motivate myself for new features or ideas during the day!
A new focus?
Since restarting the project I have developed a huge interest in the speedrunning community of gaming, from this I have come to the realisation that Seven Isles could be the perfect speed-game if done right based on my vision for the project, now I don't expect a Celeste like following but a small community of people dedicated to playing the game fast could bring in a fresh point-of-view for the project, I think this could be really awesome, however, I will of course first be focusing on the core story of the game.
Ways to play the game!
During the 7 months~ I have been dreaming of this game I have come to the conclusion that not all of my ideas would work for this game, I've compiled a shortlist that I'm sure I can nail if I do this right, these are modes that I see the game benefitting from for everyone:
-Speed Run Mode, as mentioned previously a mode with a built-in timer, auto skipping dialog, and less of a focus on RNG for those dedicated players who want to demolish what I've built with their speed!
-Hardcore Mode, A mode in which any mistake could lead to you having to restart, I feel it would be cool if you could combine this with the Speedrun mode and have extremely fast, action-packed, and dangerous gameplay!
-Endless Mode, this mode would be a way to add replayability and more fun to the game, the story planned for the game is detailed however I don't see it being more than 10 hours worth of gameplay unless you really take your time, adding in endless mode would be like an infinitely generating world in Minecraft or another similar survival game so I see it as only being good.
-Possibly a multiplayer mode, the reason for this is simple, to a lot of people playing with friends beats playing alone.
Surviving on the Seven Isles.
It's made no secret that Seven Isles is a survival game, but not much has actually been said about the survival features in the game, like many other survival games Seven Isles is planned to contain a detailed "needs" system much like that of Minecraft or the Sims, things that you will likely have to deal with in Seven Isles would be your: Thirst, Hunger, Energy, and Heat, all of these are unconfirmed but are likely to see an appearance at least in the first playable demo of the game to see how well they work, all of these "needs" will be based on different things in the game, if you spend all day running around you'll likely be tired and thirst, whereas if you spent a day slowly hiking around the island to explore perhaps you would have a low hunger and maybe you have spent your night on a volcano island without any cooling method (such as making a fan or shelter) meaning your heat will be skyrocketing, all of these things have items that counteract them and will be very in depth, as for your choices in the game, one of your main decisions in the game will be your food source, each island will have different animals living there, different fish surrounding it and different plant life, for example a frozen over island may have a lot of meat but not a lot of fish or plants whereas a volcanic island might have some more plant life and fish, your food and drink will likely be your main limiting factor in your survival, for tools you will have the usual, pickaxe, axe, shovel, and sword, however these won't all be used as you'd expect, the axe of course would be used for trees and the sword for protection and hunting however the pickaxe will have a less important role being closer to something like don't starve where you can demolish rocks to find materials a little less common but also less commonly needed and the shovel being used to extract minerals from the dirt.
With all that being said Seven Isles is still a huge way from being ready and even the list of mechanics and features still has to be thought up however I'm confident this stuff could create a great game and am extremely hopeful that I can handle it this.
